Frequently Asked Questions
What are drink syrups (AKA beverage concentrates)?
Drink syrups are beverage concentrates used to create mixed drinks, from cocktails, mocktails, italian sodas to coffee and tea drinks. At Portland Syrups, our beverage concentrates are versatile and can be combined with a variety of flavors, alcoholic spirits, seltzers and other beverages to craft unique and flavorful drinks.
Why choose Portland Syrups over other drink mixers?
Portland Syrups has been perfecting premium drink mixers for over a decade. We use high-quality, whole ingredients and natural sweetener (organic cane sugar) to create lower-sugar syrups that deliver exceptional flavor. Whether you’re a professional mixologist or a home enthusiast, our products are designed to elevate your drink-making experience.
Can Portland Syrups be used in coffee and tea drinks?
Absolutely! Some of our best-selling flavors are often used in coffee and tea drinks. Try a Lavender Matcha Latte or add a splash of Peppermint or Pumpkin Spice Syrup to your lattes. Grab a bottle of Chai or Vanilla Rooibos Syrup to use both in mixed drinks as well as your morning coffee. We also make simple syrups which can be used in coffee and tea along with cocktails and mocktails. Mix up an Iced Shaken Espresso drink with a splash of Brown Sugar Simple Syrup instead of splurging at a chain coffee shop!
How long are seasonal flavors available?
Our seasonal flavors are generally around for 3-4 months in any given season - spring, summer, fall or winter. Our seasonal flavors are: Margarita (summer), Mojito (spring–summer), Raspberry Rhubarb (summer), Pumpkin Spice (fall), and Peppermint (winter). Where can I get drink recipe ideas and inspiration?

Are Portland Syrups Genuine Root Beer Syrup and True Cola Syrup a replacement for Pepsi, Coke and Barq’s Root Beer?
Not exactly. We use real, whole ingredients in place of the artificial ingredients soda producers use so a soda mixed with our syrups won’t taste exactly the same. However, we love them and they’re healthier!
How do I make root beer using Portland Syrups Genuine Root Beer Syrup?
To make root beer at home, add 1 oz of Root Beer Syrup to roughly 6 oz sparkling water and ice, and stir gently to incorporate. Our Root Beer Syrup is slightly more dense than our other syrups thanks to the molasses we use. Therefore, it must be stirred to be fully incorporated into sparkling water.
What are Portland Syrups Tonic Concentrates?
Our Tonic Concentrates contain an ingredient called Quinine, a bitter-tasting alkaloid extracted from the bark of the cinchona tree that gives tonic water its characteristic taste. We currently produce two unique tonic concentrate flavors: Rose City Tonic, which is flavored with real rose petals and rose buds, and Grapefruit Tonic, which has grapefruit and elderflower. Both are subtly sweet and bitter - perfect for mocktails or classic Gin & Tonics and Vodka Tonics.
