Sarsaparilla Old Fashioned

In it's simplest form an Old Fashioned cocktail is bourbon mixed with a little simple syrup and bitters.  But why waste time with simple syrup when you have a collection of delicious syrups to experiment with!  In this particular recipe we have chosen the Root Beer syrup to create a whiskey drink with velvety vanilla notes, but it's very easy to swap our the Root Beer for another flavor to customize your Old Fashioned experience.

|  2 tsp Root Beer Syrup
|  2 oz Bourbon of Choice
|  Dash Aromatic Bitters
|  Orange peel

|  Add syrup and bitters to rocks glass and stir until mixed
|  Fill the glass with large ice cubes or one extra large old fashioned ice cube
|  Add bourbon and gently stir
|  Express the oil of the orange peel over the glass, then drop in

Portland Syrup brews exquisitely flavored lower-sugar mixers using whole botanical ingredients. Each 16 oz. bottle will make nearly a gallon of finished soda, or 16-32 cocktails, depending on your palate.

Ingredients: Water, cane sugar, brown sugar, Indian sarsaparilla root, molasses, star anise, clove, other whole spices, real vanilla extract (alcohol, whole bean extractives).
