Savory Hibiscus Glaze

A tart-floral glaze for chicken wings, noodle bowls, spring rolls, and roasted vegetables. It thickens with a quick cornstarch slurry and keeps for about four days in the fridge. Worth making extra for leftover drizzling.

At a glance

  • Prep time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 3 to 4 servings

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Hibiscus Cardamom Syrup
  • Juice of 1 mandarin orange
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • ½ tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Mix the Hibiscus Cardamom Syrup, mandarin juice, garlic powder, apple cider vinegar, and sesame oil in a bowl, then transfer to a small saucepan.
  2. Bring to just below a boil. Ladle a few tablespoons of the sauce into a small dish and whisk with the cornstarch to form a slurry.
  3. Stir the slurry back into the pan and continue heating until the glaze thickens, about 1 minute.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool slightly — it will thicken further as it stands. Use right away or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
