  • Yield: 5 servings (15 meatballs)

Ingredients

  • 1⅓ lbs ground turkey
  • ⅔ cup almond meal
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup applesauce
  • 1 scallion, thinly sliced
  • ¼ small yellow onion, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 1 tbsp Spicy Ginger Syrup
  • 4 splashes fish sauce
  • Splash of sesame oil
  • 2 tsp tamari
  • A few cracks of black pepper
  • For the glaze:
  • ¼ cup Spicy Ginger Syrup
  • ⅛ cup tamari
  • 2 dashes fish sauce
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • Cilantro, scallions, and sesame seeds, to garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine all meatball ingredients in a bowl and mix with your hands until just combined.
  2. Form 15 even meatballs and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake at 400°F for 10 minutes. Increase the heat to 450°F and bake for another 15 minutes.
  4. While the meatballs cook, heat all glaze ingredients (except the cornstarch) in a small saucepan over medium heat until it boils. Remove 2 tsp of the hot glaze and whisk with the cornstarch, then stir back in and remove from heat to thicken.
  5. Brush the meatballs with the glaze and broil for 2 to 3 minutes, until golden. Baste with more glaze, top with cilantro, scallions, and sesame seeds, and serve.
