This is an old fashioned in syrup form. We packed everything that makes a great old fashioned — orange oil, cherry, French orange liqueur extract, gentian for bitterness, cinnamon, allspice, clove, cardamom, molasses — into one bottle, so you can stop measuring four different things and just pour. Add bourbon, add ice, done.

Pour ½ oz syrup over ice with 2 oz of bourbon or rye, give it a stir, garnish with an orange peel, and you've made an old fashioned in 30 seconds. Splash it into hot tea with whiskey for a winter sipper. Mix it into a Manhattan or Boulevardier as a one-bottle vermouth-and-bitters replacement. It's also surprisingly good drizzled into cherry cola for a grown-up bourbon-cola twist.

Tasting Notes: warm orange oil, real cherry, bittersweet gentian, cinnamon-clove warmth, soft molasses finish

The Short Version: A craft old fashioned syrup that bottles the whole cocktail — orange, cherry, French orange liqueur extract, baking spices, gentian for bitterness — so you can pour a great old fashioned in 30 seconds.

Ingredients: Filtered water, organic cane sugar, cherry puree, molasses, allspice extract, orange oil, clove extract, French orange liqueur extract, cardamom extract, gentian extract, cinnamon chips, citric acid.

Perfect For: Old fashioned drinkers, bourbon and rye lovers, home bartenders who want to skip the bitters + sugar cube + measure dance, dinner-party hosts, and anyone who orders the same drink at every bar.

Best Enjoyed In: Old Fashioneds (½ oz syrup + 2 oz bourbon + ice + orange peel), Manhattans (½ oz + 2 oz rye + lemon twist), Boulevardiers, hot toddies, or stirred into cherry cola for a quick bourbon-cola.

The Portland Syrups Promise: Ethically sourced, carefully brewed, and bottled in glass jars right here in SE Portland, Oregon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does the syrup last after opening?
A: Our syrups are shelf-stable for 24 months unopened. Once opened, refrigerate and enjoy within 6 months.

Q: What's the difference between Old Fashioned Syrup and a regular simple syrup?
A: A regular simple syrup is just sugar and water — it adds sweetness without flavor. Our Old Fashioned Syrup is the entire flavor profile of an old fashioned cocktail in concentrate form — sweetness plus orange oil, cherry, gentian (a bitter root), molasses, French orange liqueur extract, and warm baking spices. With a regular simple syrup, you'd still need bitters, an orange peel, and sometimes a sugar cube and brandied cherry to build a proper old fashioned. With our Old Fashioned Syrup, you just add whiskey and ice.

Q: Do I still need bitters when I use Old Fashioned Syrup?
A: Not necessarily. The syrup contains gentian extract, which is the same bittering agent in classic aromatic bitters (and the source of most cocktail bitters' bitterness). It also has orange oil, which delivers the citrus aromatic that orange bitters would add. If you want extra complexity or have a favorite bitters you swear by, a dash or two on top still works beautifully. But for a balanced old fashioned in 30 seconds, the syrup alone gets you most of the way there.

Good change from cola flavor

I have used this in sparkling water as a change up for the cola syrup. It’s thick and has an interesting flavor. Makes a pleasant drink. I use about a tablespoon in a 11oz glass. I just like to have a splash of taste in my sparkling water. Don’t like too much of any syrup, even the cola—which is my definite favorite.

Delicious!

Making a true Old Fashioned from scratch is time-consuming, so I rarely do it. But using your Old Fashioned syrup, 2 dashes of Aromatic Bitters, and a good bourbon makes a very satisfying substitute. Thanks for this addition to your line!

Great syrup for a good Old Fashioned

My wife and I tried your syrup and it is very good. I do like it slightly less than the recipe calls for, however the flavors that are brought the cocktail are very good and right there with the way I like to craft this cocktail. Great job!

Love!

This mix definitely is great for an OF but I could put a straw in the bottle and drink it one go (well maybe two). I love the warming spice and the balanced sweetness. Nailed the OF, next up? French toast!
